Cappadocia, in central Turkey, has long been on my travel bucket list. This place promised to be unlike any other I had seen, with its unusual landscapes, underground cities, and hot air balloon excursions. I recently crossed it off my list, and I must say, it did not disappoint.
How did the trip begin?
My excursion began with a tour of Derinkuyu’s underground city. Exploring this underground city’s various passages and halls was a wonderful experience for someone who has always been captivated by ancient civilizations and their inventiveness. It was intriguing to hear about how the city was built to withstand enemy invasions and how its residents went about their daily lives.
The Göreme Open-Air Museum was the following site on my schedule. Several rock-cut churches with exquisite frescoes from the 10th and 11th centuries can be seen at this UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was incredibly awe-inspiring to go around these historic churches, admiring the artistry and craftsmanship.
The morning hot air balloon flight was undoubtedly one of the highlights of my trip. Seeing the magnificent Cappadocian countryside from the air was an unforgettable experience. I couldn’t help but marvel at the grandeur of nature as the hot air balloon sailed over the fairy chimneys and rock formations.
Climbing through the Red Valley was another memorable experience. The walk provided spectacular views of the unusual red and orange rock formations, and glimpses of hidden cave churches added to the region’s mystique. The climb was well worth it for the breathtaking panoramic views at the top.
During my vacation, I also had the chance to sample the local cuisine. Cappadocia’s delicacies did not disappoint, from robust stews and grilled meats to sweet pastries and Turkish delight. I enjoyed sampling the local wines, especially the reds from the indigenous küzgözü vine.
The best travel outfits I would suggest would be the ones that are flowy and comfortable:

Finally, my trip to Cappadocia was an incredible experience. It was a great destination because of the magnificent landscapes, rich history, and friendly welcome of the natives. Cappadocia has something for everyone interested in ancient history, natural beauty, or adventure. It’s on my vacation list, and I’d recommend it to anyone searching for a unique and memorable experience.
